Hand carved and hand dyed grey lucite cube shaped box- Under The Sea by artist Joyce Francis. Octopus, shark, puffer fish, piranha. Extraordinary carvings!
Joyce Francis is a Manhattan based artist who hand carves Lucite using twenty five different sized dentist drills in a medium referred to as "cold carving". She is self-taught. Each box or lamp is a one of a kind piece of art and they are all exclusive works for the store Blue Tree. There are no embedded objects in any of her work. Joyce's purses are in the permanent collection of costume exhibits at both the Victoria Albert Museum of London and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (her exquisite purses are displayed at both). Joyce is also the winner of the prestigious Gladys Blum Award from The National Academy of Fine Arts.
Please note that this cube does not have a magnetized top because of the weight and thickness. The artist created matching lucite hinges at the back (as she does for all her larger pieces).
